Broken For Our Redemption

February 15, 2026

Service: Sunday Worship

Book: Luke

Let’s go to Luke chapter 5 verse 17. The last part I pastor is going to read. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. We all know this situation very well. And so it is the story of a paralyzed man who is brought to the roof of a house and brought down so Jesus could heal him.
Matthew, Mark, and Luke all have written this in their in their gospel. And the the core message behind this passage is he is the one that forgives our sins. others and it is our relationship with him and then also
power and God’s power and so the three gospels write specifically about this situation and it stands out And we read in Luke 5 26, they were all amazed and they glorified God and were filled with fear saying, “We have seen strange things today.”
Broken For Our Redemption
Mark 2:12 and they said, “Uh, we have never seen anything like this.” In Mark 2:12 on the same situation, And we read in Matthew chapter 9:8 that they all feared God in the same situation. And so the ultimate message behind it is that Jesus is the one that saves the sinners and heals the sick. Even though all three gospels write it, we see specifically in Luke that he sets a specific order or a step or a stage to it. And in verse 16, it talks about Jesus praying. And we read in 15,161 17 that there are miracles happening. And so before the next miracle happens, it’s saying that Jesus is praying. And there are several reasons why Jesus prays. And there is a man that is paralyzed. He cannot do anything. And so but in the midst of Jesus prayer, four people are going out. And so now they are carrying this paralyzed man to Jesus. And no one else is praying. It is Jesus alone who is praying. And so we read in verse 17 that the the teachers and the Pharisees came out of every town of Galilee, Judea and Jerusalem. And the verse that we read at the beginning, verse 17, the power of the Lord was present to heal them. If we look at the right interpretation of this verse, and to heal them, the power of the Lord was there. And and when I say correct, that is how it is written in most of the translations. And in one translation it gives it a singular not plural. He was there for him
for this very purpose and for what purpose? For this purpose specific purpose he was there. He when he comes that power to heal him. Now behold, and then verse 18, we see the statement, then behold, men are bringing this man who is paralyzed. We all have come to this service. After the service, we’ll have some refreshments and then we’re going to take a box and we’re going to go home. We come every week
and we go every week. Is there anyone who’s come here with any other expectation other than that? Last Friday, we also heard from Johnson uncle about the belief that God will heal. Hallelujah.
And pastor Arnold read Psalm 23 in the belief that God is going to work for us today. Dear pastor, how many times have we said this? But when we come to the presence of God, we need to have that newness of his presence. People thought, “Oh, I’ll come. I’ll see miracles as usual and I’ll go.” But God did something great there. We don’t know when the work of God is happening. And so we see that Jesus and those who are with him are expecting him. They are looking forward to him coming. And also the enemy is looking forward to him coming. spiritual world. And so these friends go get this paralyzed man. And now the spiritual world is looking on to see what is going to happen here.
And heaven is ready to heal him. And the devil is looking to see what is going to happen. Dear brother and sister, the one who brought you today here is the Lord. And the Lord is ready to deliver you. And the enemy is eagerly looking to see what the Lord is going to do for you. But if God decides something,
the work of the devil, none of it will happen. They are all coming to rebuke Jesus. And the great men of Jerusalem down to the Pharisees and the rabbis of Galilee have come there to look at what Jesus is going to do. They’re not there to appreciate Jesus. They’re looking at him with scrutiny. But none of that is a botheration for Jesus. He is waiting for you. He is coming to have a deliverance in your life and he is ready for that. It is not how many hours you prayed and came and but you should pray and come. But that’s not the issue here. There
is a Jesus that prayed all night and has come here for you.
And it is that Jesus that decides that you’re going to be healed and the enemy is overflowing with something in his heart. Is he saying some sort of blasphemy before the word comes out of his mouth? He’s speaking to his heart. and he is ending his words. Jesus will never allow any enemy to stand against you. So today should be the day that we are emboldened in the spirit. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. We see this place where Jesus sees him as this paralyzed man is being carried to him. man.
And in Luke, it’s it’s referred to him as man.
Man, your sins are forgiven. in uh Matthew and Mark it says son in my childhood days during my teenagers in those days I went to a house of someone who was very important man wait there and he said man wait there and I I felt a sense of shame you know Our in our teenage years our e our ego is very delicate. If he had just called me by my name or is something better it would have been better. But in their culture when you say the word man it is referred to as friend. Even in American culture it’s that way.
What’s a man? What’s a man? And they ask each other, “What’s up, man?” And so, as soon as Jesus sees him, he is greeted.
Dear son, my child. And so on one of those pillars that the Jesus is the one that heals or the one that delivers from sin, there’s two foundations. And one of those foundations is the power of God. And that’s what we read in verse 17. And he is the powerful God. And the Holy Spirit that makes those wonders happen with power. But on the opposite side there is a weak man with no power. He cannot do anything. Psalm chapter 3 verse 5. I lay down and slept. I awoke for the Lord sustained me. And because you support me, uh I am now awake. We all need to lie down. We all need sleep. And but if we continue in our sleep, our our our life is over. And when it the time is right, we get up and do the work of the Lord. But this man is just lying down. So in God’s Jesus’s prayer, he’s sending four people. And now four people are coming and carrying him. When these four people are coming with this paralyzed man, there’s already a crowd. And when this paralyzed man is coming, no one moved out of the way. So now we see them because no one is moving out of the way, they had to take a different path, go to the roof of the house, take apart the roof and bring him down. And
let’s listen to what what is specifically done here. Many times our excuse is no one understands. No one listens to me. And this in this situation this is also their excuse possibly. But what do they do?
And so they are changing up the Lord. They are tearing apart the roof that is above Jesus. And there’s some opinions that say this was the house of Peter or this was the house that Jesus himself was staying without moving other people. If they were able to take apart where Jesus was, there will be great works that Jesus will do in our life. Many times our our work is always to fix other people. And so pastors are tired of preaching. Husband and wife are changing each other. And the mother and father are trying to change their children. But instead of this, if we sit in the presence of the Lord, not saying that we need instruction,
but if we are able to move Jesus, there’s a book titled Silence by a Japanese author and it’s the story of a Catholic priest going to Japan in the 17th century. There was a time when there was great persecution against Christians there in Japan. And so the church was underground in secret. And so when these people of the government capture a Christian, they do a test to see if they’re truly Christian. And so since they are Catholic, they’ll take an image of Jesus or a statue of Jesus and put it on the ground. and then they’ll go step on it and grind it into the ground. And so if it’s a Christian or a Catholic, they won’t do it. And so during this time of great persecution, the government arrested this priest and his name is Rodriguez. And so they did the same test. They put this picture of Jesus in front of this priest and they told him, “If you step on this image of Jesus and tear it apart and so all if you do that, all these poor people that you see here, we’re going to let them go. But if you don’t do it, we’re going to kill them. And you see how he is in between a rock and a hard place. And the the name of that book is silence. It is the questions that come in the moment that God is silent. And so we know we see in that story all to two priests have already uh forsaken Jesus and left. But when this priest is standing there and so he is standing there God why are you silent? He hears the voice of the Lord and God is telling him, you need to step on that picture. Dear child, this is why I came into this earth. I took this the mockery of man and to save him. That’s why I came. Dear person who is sitting here that God you’re thinking that God is silent in your problem. We serve a God. There is a God that lives that is able to understand your pain. He came to this world to redeem you. Even though he you gave him shame and mocking, he still took that on him to love you. He is the one that blesses who the one who takes apart the roof above his head. And these four people took apart that roof. The paralyzed man did nothing. And the word says when Jesus saw their faith, he looked at him and said, “Son, your sins are forgiven. In our yard, there are some rose bushes.” And so, every now and then, I go to cut some of these flowers. And so, I go to cut the the withered uh leaves. And so, when I was cutting one rose, I’m trying to cut out the withered or the ones that are dried up. And so when I cut it, an aroma filled that area. And so when you get cut, the only thing that spreads is the sweet aroma of Jesus. And Matthew chapter 9:8 says, And when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God who had given such power to man. Hallelujah. It is talking about the power of God. And the these three gospels Matthew, Mark and Luke talk about the same thing without change. Get up. Take up your bed. And now go to your home. First he says, “Get up.” Says, “Take up your bed and go to your home.” Up until now, he was the man that laid in his home paralyzed. It wasn’t like this before. Now he cannot do anything. other people are taking care of him. But God Jesus is telling him, “Take up your bed and go to your home.” And I’m telling you about a Jesus that changes the situation in your home. I’m telling you and preaching to you about a God that changes the situation in your home. Relationships and relationships are great stressors. What is our greatest stress? What is our stress in society? We need to be like other people. But even better, sometimes we think we need to be above others. What happens when when we think we’re below others? inferiority complex and we get this inferiority complex when we’re we think we’re below others. Is the relationship between husband and wife always smooth? Is father mother and father and children relationship always smooth? There’s always stressors in between and there’s always troubles in between. Wouldn’t if you think I don’t need any of this and we just go. And if that was the case, we’d all be sitting here as single people. We wouldn’t have families to take care of. And oh, we were all single at one time. We realized that’s not going to work. Then now we have families.
It is a stressor, but there is growth through it. responsibilities. There is there is a stress in taking on responsibilities but there’s also a fulfillment in it. When we read Luke 5 26 and verse 25 it says he rose up took what he had been lying on his bed and departed to his own house glorifying God. responsibility. He is going happily to fulfill his responsibility. Many times we think we’ve lost all our strength. But he is the God that gives newness, a renewal. And it is talking about that authority. It is talking about the power of God. And so in Isaiah 45 verse one it says, “Thus says the Lord to his anointed, it is Cyrus that is going to deliver them.” And all of that happened and Cyrus delivered them and they came back to Israel and they went and put the foundation for the temple. But when we go to Ezra 4 24 and 25, But we see that the ruler of that land came with his people and stopped the work. This is the people that God delivered. And Cyrus gave them all the blessings to go. And when Cyrus died, the next king came in. And so other enemies wrote a letter to this king. And so this king said, “Stop the work.” And so now the people of the land, the ruler of the land forcefully with authority stop the work. And so when the enemy is using power in your life, what gives you deliverance?
When we read Ezra 5 verse one,
let’s read it. That’s an
then the prophet Haggi and Zachchariah the son of Vido the prophets prophesied to the Jews who were in Judea and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel who was over them and we see what happens there. the the word of the Lord goes out. When the enemy uses power and strength to suppress your work, the word of the Lord will come out for you. And when the word of the Lord came, the work resumed. And when the work resumed, the enemy tried to interfere again. We read something in Ezra chapter 6 verse 8 onwards and the old king that stopped the work for 10 years is gone and now Darius is taking over the king and there’s some commandments that Darius says and so you need to take care of all the expenses of building their temple and you need to bear the expense of every animal to be burned on their on their altar. And so anyone that tries to stop the work of this temple will be executed. He is the one that takes apart kingdoms for you. When there’s authority that’s coming against you, he is the one that fights for you. You know what the reason for this is and who is God? And what is the purpose of God? And alongside of that, who are you in God? And what is the purpose of God in you intimate relationship with the Lord?
And that brings us to the second foundation which is our intimate relationship with the Lord.
And that word that Jesus calls him there is my son. And in in malam we say you know you know son or daughter. And those are just terms of endearment. But Jesus is not calling him like that. And so sister calls the children amani. And so I thought because maybe she’s the grand the grandchildren of Amni, but she calls that as terms of endearment and Jesus is calling with that endearment but he’s saying my son and every Mother and father will go to every end to redeem their children. But Jesus is not hesitant to go to any level to redeem his children. And we read in Isaiah chapter 45 that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. But there’s one problem. Those who are opposed will be ashamed. And the Israel that is waiting will rejoice. In his time, God will reveal his work. the Pharisees and the teachers that are looking were ashamed. And the people that enjoyed that benefit, they went and praised the Lord, they saw something that they had never seen before. And that amazement was overflowing in their life. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. And there’s only other one person that Jesus has called son. And there’s only one man that Jesus called my son and that is this man. He’s talked a lot about son. And he’s talked about Abraham as sonirect. But there’s only one person that Jesus directly said, “My son.” And that is this person. And there’s only one woman that he specifically said with his mouth, “My daughter.”
Can anyone say who it is? And it was the woman that had the issue of blood. And he calls her my daughter. And these are two people that shook up Jesus. And so this woman with this disease, if she comes and touches the hem of the garment of the teacher,
high priest
of the high priest,
he needs to go bathe immediately. And now he needs to be separate for a few days. He needs to wash all his clothes. Because now because this woman touched him, he is unclean. But when you touch Jesus, Jesus is not talking about his uncleanness at that time. And he instead says, “My daughter.” And as they are tearing apart the roof about Jesus, he says, “Your belief.” And because he saw their belief, he gave him forgiveness of sins. And in Matthew, it says this way, “Be of good cheer, my son.
Dear son, be of good cheer.” How can we be cheerful? Because today I’m going to work for you. And who is this paralyzed man? He is one. He is someone that stood at one time. He is one that walked at one time. He is one that worked at one time. He wasn’t a man of good rapport at one time. Oh, he is a man of nothing. Why did this happen? And the first words Jesus says, “Man, your sins are forgiven.” And we can assume that it is because of sin that he came to this position. How does sin for uh get forgiven? 1 John 1 verse 9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we confess our sins, he will forgive us our sins. And we read in the Psalms, David is saying, “It was not good when I hid my sin, but when I put my sin out, you forgave it.” When we want forgiveness of sins, there needs to be a confession. today. But here we don’t hear his words and we see that his repentance and his confession are understood from within him. And so as he’s being carried to Jesus, his heart and his soul are crying out and he’s praying in his heart. When Jesus sees him, he forgives him. And so Jesus can heal sickness and illness. But if you want forgiveness of sins, you have to confess. And when he confessed in his heart, Jesus gave him that that forgiveness. In the Bible, it says three people sins that Jesus forgave. And the first one was this man. And this uh second one was that sinful woman. And so we see that when she comes to Jesus, she didn’t confess anything, but she is doing one thing and she is weeping and her tears are falling at the feet of Jesus. And she’s taking her hair and wiping the feet of Jesus. She takes that expensive perfume onto the feet of Jesus. And because of her tears and her work, Jesus says, “I have one thing to tell you, Simon. Because of her work here, and all her sins are forgiven, many times we say things with words, but our heart is nowhere near. Many times it’s we are without any connection like a phone to a satellite. God just forgive us for whatever I’ve done. And the third person is the thief that hung on the cross next to Jesus. We never read that he confesses God forgive my sin. And so he does two things. He rebukes the other thief. And then he tells Jesus when you come in your kingdom please remember me these three prayers and the words are not written but it is written in the tears. It is written in the brokenness of the spirit. The pastor from the outside looks and says there’s no words. But Jesus says, “I heard it. Your sins are forgiven.” Sometimes there there is no connection and we go. But the renewing prayer of Jesus needs to be in our heart. And so from within us, the the prayers that draw us to Jesus need to be there. And many times the only time we pray is if we get some scary dream or we need to be in some deep trouble.
And so someone I knew one time went hunting. And so in America when someone goes hunting they take the license with their gun and put in their truck and take it to their home so their family can enjoy. But Indians are not like that. Indians are very communal. When an Indian goes hunting, he takes parts and pieces from everyone in the community to go hunting.
And so a believer also went in that midst. And so I’m not saying it as a bad thing. And that day I’ve also gone hunting. But that day he also went and I’m talking about something a long time ago. Now you would be arrested. And so at night they went hunting and landed in front of an elephant. And so the the elephant made a noise. And so now this hunter that was in the front took off afraid that the elephant was going to move quickly. And everyone turned in different directions and ran. Even though Indians are communal in certain situations, everyone looks after themselves. And everyone started running. And so this person that I knew who went on this hunting trip started to pray. Not some quiet prayer. He is crying out. And dear God, what is my wife going to do if I’m not there? What is she going to do with our young baby? Dear God, save me. And so the the elephant hasn’t let them go. is right behind. And so now the power of his prayer is changing. Now he’s talking in tongues and praying. And he’s rebuking the elephant and praying. And because he isn’t a native, he is just following other people who are native and running. And there’s a big rock there as a like almost like a cliff. And so they just ran up that rock. Mountain climbers. None of these people are mountain climbers, but in that situation, somehow they climbed up the rock. They can’t come down, but they climbed up. And so after the height of this elephant, they’re all hanging up above the height of this elephant. And so now this man’s prayer is continuing to change. and and these days prepare us for an end time ministry. Make my wife like Dborah. Make my son a great testimony in the land. And his power of his prayer is changing because the elephant is circling in that area. And so now there’s a noise at the top of the hill. And dear brother, stay quiet. Let that elephant go. And so he’s saying just go. You could pray after the elephant leaves. What’s the problem? Once that elephant leaves, that prayer will also stop. Then after that, it’s just stories. You know why when you lie down, you see some bad dreams that you’re being chased by some animal. When you see this, just pray. When you sit where you’re supposed to sit, he will deliver you. a man of God named Wigglesworth. And one night in his sleep, he turned over
and he felt like someone was standing there. And when he opened his eyes, he saw what looked like the devil there. And he looked at him and said, “Oh, it’s you.” And he turned over to the other side. When does our prayer come? And I’m telling you, we should pray. But this is the attack of the devil. Praise the Lord. He is the God that accepts anyone that repents and comes to him. He is the go He is the God that accepts anyone who comes with an open heart. He’s willing to go to any end for them. And so he like he destroyed the roof above Jesus’ head. He’s the one that also destroyed the expectations that Jesus had for him. But when he comes back, Jesus is not worried about those losses. and he says, “My son,” and he doesn’t allow the work or the words of the devil to open. He is the one that strengthens you. He is living to make your work happen. He is the one that lives. He won’t allow you to be broken, but renews you so you can Those days are coming that the work of the Lord will be declared to the next generation. Let us bow our heads this morning. And he says that’s not a problem. Go step on it. And he is ready for your renewal to suffer anything because he is the loving God. He is the almighty God. He is the strong one. And he is the compassionate one. And he gave us such an opportunity to serve him in ouritude. Is our heart full with this gratitude? Is our heart filled with this praise? Let us stand up this morning. Hallelujah. My God, my God, I humble myself in your presence. You are ready to suffer for me. You are ready to be mocked in front of the crowd for me. My heart is shaken with gratitude and I submit myself to you and to finish my work, to finish my testimony, to complete my testimony. No one will ever say it was broken. He started great, but it was broken. He will finish even better than he started. Finish even better than when he started and make a situation where it will be a testimony to the next generation in Jesus name. Amen
